CULTUREfix NYC- 9 Clinton St, NYC
After a hectic week of dealing with the chaos that was Hurricane Sandy, our partners at CULTUREfix have some really exciting events planned for tomorrow as well as friday nights.
Originally planned for Halloween, The Real Girlz Ball featuring Jessica Troublood Riddle & Timothy Allen Living opens tomorrow night, Thursday November 8th. Curated by Johnny Sagan, this event is considered a ‘gala opening,’ and is Jessica Troublood Riddle’s premier solo show. Containing a sculptural installation of Barbie dolls reflecting prototypes of our social experience and video work using these “Real Girlz,” the artist claims that these dolls are “DIY fashion pastiche.” The opening of this show will include music from DJ Timothy Allen Living. If you are looking for a multisensory art experience, please be sure to RSVP to this event on the facebook and come out to our location at 9 Clinton St tomorrow night.
Come out to CULTUREfix on Friday night for a performance by Harbour featuring Anthony Tino (me). Harbour is Damian Patrick, Jonas Bers in relation to acoustics. It’s not just playing music, it’s almost like live music production, a musical experience saturated with the most essential qualities of “masterworks.” Their music is full of swells and distant decrescendos. It may bear a resemblance to how you may think the center of the earth sounds or what a singe cell of hydrogen fission would sound like if it was slowed down one million times. For the past few years, I have been working slowly on creating images that not only symbolically represent acoustic space, but connect the visual and audio. After a performance at Chashama gallery this summer, Jonas Bers began experimenting with using analog video equipment in conjunction with video software Isadora, to create live video textures and patterns. Our collaboration is one that treats images, or the lack of traditional ‘image’ with the same approach as creating ambient music or noise.
This involved, one night only installation is one of complex circuitry, skillful engineering and carefully selected video placement. This will be the first time that all three members of this collaboration will perform for a live audience and we hope to put your senses into a trance. This event begins at 7:30 pm this Friday November 9th. Be sure to RSVP on our facebook page and check out some video of Harbour at the Endless exhibition which opened at Chashama Gallery this past summer.
