FIRESIDE FOLLIES CO-CURATOR MICHAEL LALA INTRODUCES NEW READING SERIES TO THE LOWER EAST SIDE
RSVP on Facebook to our second FLASH/BANG reading.
In collaboration with RAC | Recession Art at culturefix, Bushwick-based poet and Fireside Follies Reading and Arts Series co-curator Mike Lala will this spring be introducing “FLASH/BANG,” a new, monthly series of flash-readings by acclaimed and up-and-coming poets and authors in an intimate gallery setting downtown. All readings will be free and open to the public.
Consisting of three readers, each reading for 10-15 minutes, FLASH/BANG will be a continuation of the Fireside Follies spirit in the heart of Manhattan’s Lower East Side. With each reading lasting no more than an hour, FLASH/BANG will take place at the newly opened RAC (Recession Art at culturefix) gallery at 9 Clinton St. (Clinton and Houston), connected to the culturefix bar/cafe and Recession Art’s print and book shop.
FLASH/BANG will showcase a wide variety of voices in poetry and fiction, with the occasional multimedia artist or reader. For April, we welcome Jeffrey Yang (Vanishing-Line), Anna Moschovakis (You and Three Others are Approaching a Lake), and Corina Copp (Pro-Magenta / Be Met). Books will be sold via the RAC bookshop, and drinks and food will be available from the culturefix bar.
Mike Lala is the author of two poetry chapbooks, [fire!] ([sic] Press 2011) and Under the Westward Night (Knickerbocker Circus Publishing 2011), and his poems and text art have appeared or are forthcoming in DIAGRAM, the Red Cedar Review, Explosion-Proof, Sink Review, HTMLGiant, La Fovea, and GQ Italy, among many others. He curates Fireside Follies in Brooklyn and has curated past readings and arts events in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Detroit.
